Council Tax Support Scheme 2026/27 Consultation

Closes 21 Dec 2025

Introduction

We would like to hear your views on our proposal to change Slough Borough Council’s Council Tax Support scheme from 2026/27.

9,091 households in Slough receive Council Tax Support.

There are 2,625 households that are of state pensionable age and are not affected by these proposals.

There are 4031 households that are classified as households that are not working and 2435 on income below £461.54 per week.

The cost of this support is now £10.4 million and is expected to keep rising. We’re looking at ways we could reduce the money the council spends on Council Tax Support – we want to ensure it continues to be viable and affordable in future. If we made these changes in their entirety, the Council Tax Support scheme annual expenditure would reduce by £872,000 in 2026/27.

Depending on the feedback we receive, changes may differ from those set out in the consultation.

We will make our decision in January 2026, and we will publish this on our website.

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document will give you more information about the proposals and how they may affect you or people living in your area.

The consultation closes on 21 December 2025.

If you’d like some help completing the survey, come to one of our drop in events advertised on the main page of this consultation on our website.
