The powers were approved by the Department of Transport in November 2025 and enforcement of moving traffic restrictions at some locations began in Slough from July 2026. More details available on Moving Traffic Enforcement – Slough Borough Council website.

Overview

Our Network Management team is preparing to apply to the Department for Transport (DfT) for Moving Traffic Enforcement (MTE) powers, which would help us to manage the road network.

The power to enforce moving traffic contraventions lies with the police however we are seeking to have these powers granted to us too from the Department for Transport (DfT).

The powers would mean approved camera devices could be used to enforce moving traffic contraventions. This would include:

driving through a ‘no entry’ sign
turning left or right when prohibited
entering yellow box junctions when the exit is not clear
driving where and when motor vehicles are prohibited, including on ‘school streets’ and for width/weight restrictions.
